Bringing Ideas to Life

Body Love Studio is a space where dancers are given the chance to be creative and over the top.

Our Creative Arts teams are directed towards performing in shows, competitions and fundraisers.

Competitions.

Our Creative Arts teams participate in 3-4 competitions per year.

Competition Team Requirements

  1. Our Competition Team classes run twice a week. Dancers must be in at least one of these classes.

  2. Dancers must be entered in an exam class. Be it with the studio, or with a local ballet or modern studio. Exams are important, as they teach correct technique and etiquette.

  3. Team members will also need to wear appropriate form-fitting dance attire and dance shoes to all of their classes, with their hair pulled away from their face.

  4. Team members are expected to maintain good attendance in all of their dance classes.  Proper attendance is an essential component of the dancer’s education and progress.  A dancer who misses technique, class, extra practice and/or rehearsal will hold back the progress of the entire team. Dancers should only be absent if it is absolutely necessary.

  5. Our competition calendar listing specific dates and locations will be distributed by February.  All dates and locations are subject to change annually and are at the discretion of the studio director.
The competition team will compete in approximately 3-5 regional competitions per year.

  6. We will travel to a national competition on an every other year basis  Attendance at nationals is not mandatory, but will require at least 4 team members from the team to attend.  Attendance at all summer rehearsals is mandatory for all dancers participating in nationals.

  7. Only one dance routine per half-hour private lesson. Additional half-hour private sessions are required for additional routines. Any private lesson routine that competes at any competition will not participate in recital (unless they are invited to perform at recital by the studio director)

  8. The competition team warm-up jacket and/or studio apparel are highly encouraged for all team members and audience members, especially during the award ceremonies.

The focus of our competition program is positive sportsmanship, team unity, and the opportunity to learn and grow.

Does my child need to compete?

Your child is under no obligation to compete.

We will only accept children wanting to compete if they are over 6 years of age and committed to working as a team.

We do not allow children to compete in solos if they do not compete in group performances.

Each child will be included in our recitals and invited to participate in exam work.

What are the benefits of exams?

  • To receive recognition for hard work

  • To have a goal to work towards

  • To attain your personal best

  • To learn and achieve in a safe and fun environment

The benefits to students themselves are priceless:

  • Teaches children about goal setting

  • Provides a sense of accomplishment

  • Provides an incentive to work harder

  • Instills the importance of technical training in dance (no it’s not all about the tricks)

  • Provides an opportunity to enhance performance quality alongside technical training.

  • Get certification, because if you successfully pass the examination you hold certification for that level.

  • Allows students to know exactly what level they are working at from an internationally recognized syllabus.

What Syllabus do we use?

  • Acrobatic Dance Teachers Association

  • Acrobatic Federation of South Africa

  • Theatre Dance Association

Each child will be given the opportunity to perform at Eisteddfod each year, in the event that they are interested in competing, but are not likely to commit to the competition team.

In the event that a parent has not paid fees, or if their child is not yet prepared to participate in exams or competitions, Body Love Studio reserves the right to scratch the dancers from exams, competitions, or shows.

Experiment, Explore, Expand.

Our classes are based around exploring what our bodies can do! We enjoy learning new techniques and experimenting with different styles and ideas. We want our dancers to grow not only in skill, but in confidence and creativity too.

Move with Love.

Our motto. Where ever you move, whenever you move, however you move: MOVE WITH LOVE!

"We are very fortunate and thankful to have a great teacher & mentor like you for our kids."
